What is staring us in the face is the complete reversal of good and evil. Think about it: protecting the lives of babies is slandered as being archaic and evil—while killing babies is good. Killing babies is good. That is exactly what the culture is screaming, loudly and clearly, for all to hear.
The overtly God-hating society in which we live will go to extraordinarily great lengths to rid itself of any mark of God’s Image. Whether it be through distorting justice, perverting sex, or renouncing gender, sinful man is constantly seeking to remove its Creator’s fingerprints. And so it should not surprise us at all that the hallmark of God’s Image in women—childbearing—falls under attack, and that in their rebellion, women begin to loathe that to which God called them.
This dichotomy of exchange should be exactly what we expect to see in Christianity. In fact, it illustrates for us exactly what we need—to shed our sinfulness and put on righteousness. These two cannot coexist; ultimately, there can only be one or the other.
Already, we’re seeing tweets and headlines regarding hate and bigotry, gun control, hate speech, and the volatile socio-political climate. Granted, all of these, to one degree or another, have a place in the conversation, but they all miss the point.
Because of the Trinity, we have the hope of salvation! Because of the Trinity, we have a rich, personal relationship with our creator! Apart from a Triune God, these assurances and realities are impossible.
We, as Christians, with hearts filled with gratitude, ought to seek to glorify Him. All the time. In every circumstance. In all that we do.
It was not possible for Christ to be held by death (Acts 2:24)—he was resurrected! For us, that is everything! It means that God’s justice and wrath against us is satisfied. It means that Christ’s work is finished. It means that the results of sin—death—is defeated and that total forgiveness and absolvement is available to any who would put their faith, not in their own ability to obey, but in what Jesus has accomplished in our place.
We know what we ought to be doing but we do not do it and as we’ll see, these are far more frequent and far more serious than we may initially think.
