Life Begins With Salvation

What is Salvation?

Salvation first asserts that there’s something we need to be saved from. All of us sin against God, we’re all guilty of this (Rom. 3:23). You’ve heard it said “nobody’s perfect”, and that statement couldn’t be more true. In fact, our imperfection is so deep that we are unable to do anything pleasing to God (Rom. 8:8). All of us have sinned countless times and despite our best efforts, we’re unable to even make a dent in this great debt.
Salvation is the good news. Because we’re unable to get ourselves in a right standing with God, He meets us where we are, and He makes a way to fix our broken relationship. He sent His only Begotten Son to become a man (Heb. 2:14), to take on human flesh and blood (Jn. 1:13), and Jesus lived perfectly for us. Since we can’t obey, Jesus did. And Jesus then took the punishment for our sins (2 Cor. 5:21), that’s why he died on the cross! (Gal. 3:13). See, God can’t just look past sin, He can’t pretend that it’s not there because He’s perfectly just. So He punished Jesus for our sins, His justice is satisfied, and He declares us righteous because of Jesus’ perfect life (Rom. 3:24-26)
Salvation is when we abandon all faith in ourselves and our ability to please God, and instead we put our complete trust in what Jesus has accomplished for us. It’s repenting of our sins and trusting that, because of Christ, they’re forgiven. It’s total surrender to the fact that we can do nothing and that He has done everything; coming to an end of ourselves and trusting in Him alone. And this salvation is free and available to anybody!
